By

Charlie Hunnam who was first tapped to play the character of Christian Grey in E.L. James' "Fifty Shades" franchise now regrets dropping the project. Meanwhile, "Man of Steel" actor Henry Cavill recently confirmed that he is not playing Jack Hyde in the upcoming sequel "Fifty Shades Darker".

"Sons of Anarchy" actor Charlie Hunnam has left many hearts broken when he decided to abandon the role of Christian Grey in E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" weeks after he was officially cast. Though it has later on found a new Christian Grey in "Once Upon A Time's" Jamie Dornan, the 35-year-old actor still feels bad leaving the project. In fact, he describes it as a "very painful" decision to make.

"It was very, very painful for me, that whole process, just very unpleasant," Hunnam told Entertainment Weekly. "I felt like I let myself down. I let those people down on 'Fifty Shades' that I'd grown to really love and respect. It's just a really unpleasant period of time for me."

It was noted that the actor dropped the role in October 2013 due to his busy schedule and earlier commitments. "It's very hard to be disciplined in that situation and understand what is going to be required to all of that work to the best of your ability and have yourself surrounded by people," he explained. While Hunnam may have regretted leaving the franchise and breaking the hearts of its fans, another actor seems to find amusement in it.

"Man of Steel" actor Henry Cavill has recently revealed that he was only messing up when he hinted that he may appear in the upcoming sequel "Fifty Shades Darker". Talking to USA Today, he jokingly admitted that he was never attached to board the erotic franchise, saying "I'm not in 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' I'm for real. I'm just messing with everyone."

The 32-year-old actor has mentioned that he used to be harassed about taking the lead role in the film, despite his confirmation of not boarding the project. "This time around, everyone is now still convinced I'm part of the series. Now the question is, 'Are you going to be in 'Fifty Shades Darker. ' And I thought, I'm going to try a different tact this time. See what they say."

This has caused rumors and predictions of him playing the antagonist in the next film to float around online. Cavill said he has enjoyed watching the reaction to this week's comments spiral out-of-control online, calling it "extraordinary." In fact, the actor said he might do something like that again and "make a real social experience out of it."

Meanwhile, Cavil is slated to appear in the upcoming films "The Man From U.N.C.L.E" and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" while Hunnam will star in "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur" and "Crimson Peak".

As for the "Fifty Shades" franchise, its next installment featuring Jamie Dornan as the titular character is slated to open on February 2017.
