Even before the film adaptation of E.L. James' "Fifty Shades of Grey" hit the big screen, the title has already made it to the headlines. One of the moments it has taken the spotlight was when Charlie Hunnam who was supposed to be playing the mysterious billionaire, Christian Grey, has decided to pull out of his commitment in the erotic-romantic flick. Recently, the "Sons of Anarchy" actor finally spilled the beans behind his withdrawal from the project.

Two years ago, E.L. James has excitedly revealed to the fans that Charlie Hunnam will be officially playing the popular fictional BDSM enthusiast and billionaire, Christian Grey. But the actor has later on abandoned the project which earned a controversial rumor. While speculations suggest that the actor has dropped out of the project because he got cold feet, the actor revealed to Moviefone that he just could not handle the demands of doing multiple projects at the same time.

"I was going to finish 'Sons' at like 11 p.m. Friday night, get on the plane Saturday morning to Vancouver for 'Fifty,' missing the whole first week of rehearsal and start shooting Monday morning," he said. The actor continued, "I was going to shoot that film, wrap that on the Wednesday and the following Monday I was going to start shooting 'Crimson Peak' in Toronto. I just had like ... frankly, something of a nervous breakdown."

As per Fashion Style's report, Hunnam also did not want to fail giving justice to the popular character which is another factor that caused him to opt out from the film. "To fail on such a grand scale - because 'Fifty's' going to be massive, it's going to be huge," he said, adding, "I just couldn't transition from Jax Teller to Christian Grey in 48 hours. I bit off more than I could chew, and it was painful."

According to E Online, Jamie Dornan has later on subbed in for Hunnam as Christian Grey for the film "Fifty Shades of Grey". Novelist and screenwriter Bret Easton Ellis was noted to have given his seal of approval on Oct. 24, telling his Twitter followers, "I think that Jamie Dornan is the perfect choice to play Christian Grey in FIFTY SHADES OF GREY. Smartest casting decision in a long time."

Dornan appeared on the film alongside Dakota Johnson who played the role of Grey's naïve love interest, Anastasia Steele. The R-rated "Fifty Shades of Grey" was helmed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and premiered last February 13, 2015.
