Universal Pictures has announced that the sequel to the third highest-grossing film "Jurassic World" is slated to open in cinemas on June 2018. Lead actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are also slated to return in the newly announced, yet to be titled sequel.
After bagging the number 3 spot in the list of highest grossing movies of all time, it is evident that "Jurassic World" is getting a sequel. On Thursday, Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment has finally made it official, announcing that the next installment of the franchise will be released on June 22, 2018.
"Guardians of the Galaxy" actor Chris Pratt is expected to return as the Alpha of the Raptors, Owen, as well as Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire. Colin Trevorrow will also be returning in the franchise but no longer as the director. According to Slashfilm, the 38-year-old filmmaker is slated to write the screenplay for the upcoming sequel, with his writing partner Derek Connolly. Frank Marshall and Trevorrow will produce the sequel, with Amblin's Steven Spielberg as the executive producer.
"Jurassic World" co-stars Ty Simpkins, Jake Johnson, Nick Robinson, Vincent D'Onofrio, BD Wong, Omar Sy and Judy Greer but their return are yet to be determined.
In related news, "Jurassic World" has become the third top-grossing film of all time on Wednesday, surpassing Marvel's 2012 superhero film "Avengers" with a monster ticket sale of $1.52 billion. The movie falls behind James Cameron's masterpieces "Avatar" which grossed $2.78 million and "Titanic" with $2.18 million. It is the second film from Universal Pictures to make it on the top 5 list which already has the studio's "Furious 7".
Offering a terrifying sci-fi adventure set 22 years after Spielberg's 1993 movie "Jurassic Park", the Chris Pratt-starring flick is still about to open in Japan this August.
