"Trainwreck" actress Brie Larson is in talks to play the female lead in Legendary Pictures' "Kong: Skull Island". The studio is also reportedly eyeing "Noah" star Russell Crowe to fill one of the roles in the upcoming movie. Co-starring Tom Hiddleston, the film is slated to open in cinemas on March 2017.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts might have lost Michael Keaton and J.K. Simons in his "King Kong" reboot, but it continues to go forward with two new actors slated to fill the vacated spots. According to Deadline, Brie Larson has officially signed to play the female lead role in the upcoming "Kong: Skull Island". The "Trainwreck" actress is noted to have an extensive resume covering both film and television flicks. However, the reboot will be her first role in a big-budget, SFX-heavy sort of movie.

Apart from Larson, Award-winning Australian actor Russell Crowe is also reportedly set to board the project. The Wrap reports that Legendary is eyeing him to fill in one of the vacated roles in the movie. Crowe, however, has not read the script yet as he is still waiting for a new draft. The 51-year-old actor is known for his roles of John F. Nash in the biopic "A Beautiful Mind", and Roman General Maximus Decimus Meridius in the 2000 historical epic film "Gladiator". He most recently starred in his directorial film "The Water Diviner".

Meanwhile, "Kong: Skull Island" will see the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes which will be trekked by a team of explorers. Also starring Tom Hiddleston ("Crimson Peak", "Thor"), it is written by John Gatins and Max Borenstein and will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts. Mary Parent, and Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni are producing, with Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod as its executive producers.

"Kong: Skull Island" is slated to commence its production late this year or early 2016 year for a March 10, 2017 release.
