A new character will be seen in the episodes of "Castle" season 8 as Toks Olagundoye joins to cast of the ABC police procedural. She will be playing the role of Hayley Vargas, a security specialist, and fans speculate that she will help Kate Beckett choose the right career for her.
"The Neighbor" alum is the recent cast addition in "Castle" that will debut in the new episodes of season 8. Christian Today reported that ABC did an initial call for females in their mid-20s for the role of Hayley Vargas. Olagundoye, 39, nabbed the role despite being a bit older for it.
There were speculations circulating online as to how Hayley will affect the show. The new security specialist is described as quick-witted, free-spirited, and is not afraid to cross lines to get her job done. She will also be working alongside Nathan Fillion's Rick, which made fans wonder if Hayley will step in between Castle and Beckett's relationship. Other speculations on the other hand, claim that she might help Kate to choose being a Captain than run for the Senate.
The ABC police procedural has been undergoing major changes since season 7 ended. The show now has Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley as its new showrunners. Fans of the show, and even Stana Katic herself, were saddened over Penny Johnson Jerald's departure from the show. And with the attachment of Toks Olagundoye in the series, Paul and Hawley are really shaking things up a little bit.
However, Nathan Fillion told TVLine that the changes being made, specifically between his character and Stana's, are for the show's benefit.
"In order for a show to continue and move forward, things have to change, and things have changed over the years for these two," Fillion said. "It's simply another change, and it's going to be great."
"Castle" season 8 will be seeing 'The Neighbors' alum Toks Olagundoye as Hayley, Vargas, a security specialist who will work with Rick and possibly help Kate in her career choices.
"Castle" returns on ABC this September 21.
