'Iron Man 4' is the upcoming follow-up to the commercially successful series produced by Marvel Studios. It follows the exploits of Tony Stark, a founding member of the superhero team Avengers. Reports state of the possibility of the extended Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) coming to an end after Phase 3 - where the 4th movie is set to be released. 'Iron Man' director Shane Black finally confirmed its development despite circulating rumors saying otherwise.

According to CNBC, Marvel Studio may call it quits for the long-running MCU franchise if Phase 3 isn't received well by the mainstream audience. However, they have not fully confirmed any plans beyond 2019 yet. In the report, analysts said that creative teams behind the franchise began prepping for a future of possibilities in the MCU by introducing new characters and interweaving plot lines.

Downey Jr. has also been said to reprise his role as Iron Man to help Marvel extend its franchise. It's difficult to imagine MCU ending at Phase 3 at such an anticlimactic note. On the upside, Paul Dergarabedian - a senior media analyst at Rentrak Corporation - said, "I presume the audiences of 2030 and 2035 will still be going to Marvel movies in a big way... They're definitely getting their slate ramped up and ready to go."

According to Master Herald, Black said that 'Iron Man 4' is likely to happen with leading man Robert Downey Jr. to reprise his role as Tony Stark. The confirmation came to counter earlier contrasting reports that stated Ty Simpkins will be joining the franchise as a replacement for Downey Jr.

An article by Movie News Guide stated that Marvel and Downey Jr. are currently going through negotiations regarding a raise in his talent fee. He was reportedly paid a hefty $50 million for his previous work in 'Iron Man 3'.

'Iron Man 4' is an upcoming superhero film in the MCU. The first in the 'Iron Man' movie series debuted on April 14, 2008 and was praised by critics and audiences alike.
