King Kong is back and more about his origins are set to be revealed in Kong: Skull Island. Weeks ago, actors Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have left the cast and rumors are now swirling that Legendary Pictures is currently eyeing on Russell Crowe to join the cast. Actress Brie Larson is also in talks to play female lead role.

In the previous weeks, actors Michael Keaton and JK Simmons have left the cast of the King Kong movie due to conflicts in their schedule and because of that actor Tom Hiddleston was left as the sole cast member on board.

However, things are rumored to change as Legendary is said to be eyeing on Russell Crowe to take one of the two vacant roles that Keaton and Simmons left. Crowe has reportedly not read the script yet, and is currently waiting for the next draft to come.

Aside from Crowe, Trainwreck actress Brie Larson is also in talks to join the cast as the lead star. If she decides to take the project, she is set to star opposite actor Tom Hiddleston in the flick.

The movie previously revealed by Simmons to be set in 1970s Detroit will focus on King Kong's origins. "Kong: Skull Island will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island. Legendary's story honors the foundations of existing King Kong lore, but places it in an entirely new, distinct timeline," the synopsis read.

Kong: Skull Island will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts and written by Max Borenstein and John Gratis. Jon Jashni, Mary Parent, and Thomas Tull will produce the movie, while Alex Garcia and Eric McLeod will execute produce. It is set to hit theaters on March 10, 2017.
