Ever since word came out of a new 'Captain Marvel' live-action adaptation, several actresses have been linked to play the role of Carol Danvers a.k.a. Ms. Marvel. Among these actresses tagged are Charlize Theron, Katee Sackhoff, Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain, Katheryn Winnick and Bryce Dallas Howard. Such reports remain unconfirmed. However, Howard did express enthusiasm for the title role. Marvel is also set to bring more strong female heroes on Netflix.
According to Cinema Blend, the 'Lady In The Water' actress was keen on being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). When she was told that she could play the part of Captain Marvel she said," Oh my God, will you write that? Will you write that please? Yes, let's start a campaign now.
That would be rad. Those movies are so fantastic because talk about just these incredibly drawn characters!... I just would love to be in a Marvel film." The studio nor Howard have not confirmed of any talks for the upcoming film.
'Captain Marvel' would be the first female superhero from the Marvel franchise to hit the big-screens. Although the film won't debut until 2018, the studio is cooking up more strong female characters to debut on popular streaming site Netflix.
According to Seattle Times in a report by Associate Press, Marvel will release new superheroes on Netflix every six months. The announcement was revealed during the Television Critics Association meeting in Beverly Hills. Netflix will be airing out new additions of Marvel's superheroes starting with 'Jessica Jones' to debut by the end of 2015.
Other supplementary series include 'Defenders' - a team composed of Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist and Luke Cage - as well as more 'Daredevil' and a possibility of its spin-off focusing on villain The Punisher. Another article by Time.com reported that Marvel and Netflix will basically be releasing five separate shows featuring each of the heroes in 'Defenders'.
A character in the 'Captain America' series, Peggy Carter, has also gotten her own share in the spotlight with 'Agent Carter' on ABC. The series' showrunners Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas are also the new writers taking over Kelly Sue DeConnick's 'Captain Marvel' comic book series.
'Captain Marvel' is set to be released on November 2, 2018 and penned by screenwriters Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman. This will be the 20th movie installment in the MCU, as well as the eighth installment of Phase 3.
