Although its release is still years away, hints about the upcoming Green Lantern movie have started surfacing. Tyrese Gibson confirmed that he has talked to Warner Bros officials, while Chris Pine has been confirmed not to play the role. Fans might witness more than one Green Lantern in the upcoming movie as hinted in the last Comic Con.
Since Green Lantern's standalone film is not happening until 5 years from now, it is quite understandable that casting news is pretty scarce as of now. But according to Forbes, as early as now, fans can already cross out Chris Pine's name on the list of potential actors to play the role as it has been confirmed that he will be playing the role of Steve Trevor, who is the love interest of Wonder Woman. Pine was previously rumored to play the role of Hal Jordan.
On the other hand, according to Comic Book, Gibson, one of the actors who are also rumored to take the role, revealed that he already had talks with the Warner Bros officials. "I've already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we'll see what happens.
I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that's not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there's a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing. So I would love to confirm something today but I can't. We'll just keep following up," he said.
However, it now seems like fans will not only be seeing one Green Lantern in the big screen. In the recent Comic Con, Warner Bros revealed that the official title for the upcoming movie is Green Lantern Corps. As reported by The Verge, according to comic book lore, the Green Lantern Corps is an intergalactic police force of various species from the universe that defends sectors of the universe. This force reportedly includes Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and Sinestro among many others.
Details are pretty scarce as of now, but more details about the Green Latern standalone film are expected to be released in the coming days. The movie has been slated for release sometime in 2020.
