A Shaft remake is currently being developed by New Line Cinema and writers have been hired to write the film. New developments have emerged as the movie is said to have a comedic side to it, although it will still remain to be full of action.
Fresh details have now emerged about New Line's upcoming Shaft remake since the company bought the film's rights last February. The movie has found its writers as Kenya Barris and Alex Barnow have been hired to write the script.
Barnow had previously written several episodes of The Goldbergs, Mr. Sunshine, Rules of Engagement, 'Til Death, and Family Guy. While Barris had previously worked on America's Next Top Model, The Game, and is currently developing the screenplay for Barbershop 3, and the cinematic adaptation of Good Times.
According to The Hollywood Reporter who first broke the news, the upcoming Shaft remake will be produced by John Davis along with Ira Napoliello. No reports about the cast and exact release date have been released yet. The publication also reported that the movie will contain a comedic touch to it although it will also
The first Shaft movie was released in 1971 which starred Richard Roundtree as John Shaft. It was based on a book that was released in 1970. Its story reportedly tackled Blaxpoitation, and centered on Shaft who was hired to find a missing girl. Its soundtrack which was by Isaac Hayes also reportedly greatly contributed to the film.
Another remake was also done in 2000. Samuel L. Jackson starred in the movie and played as John Shaft's nephew. The movie was directed by John Singleton. Its theme song won two Grammy awards and and Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Aside from the story, the movie's theme song is also said to be one of the greatly anticipated part of the film. Details are pretty scarce as of now as Shaft Remake is still in its early stages of production. More details about the movie are expected to be released in the coming months.
