Naomi Campbell Sentence: Supermodel Faces 6-Month Suspended Jail Sentence for Hitting Paparazzo with Handbag

Supermodel Naomi Campbell is facing a six month suspended prison sentence for beating a paparazzo with her handbag in 2009. The decision was made by a Sicilian court on Friday after the case was reopened due to the intensity of the charges.

Campbell together with her attorney, Guido Carlo Alleva is planning to appeal for a petition against the ruling made.

"We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident," attorney Guido Carlo Alleva said in a statement gathered by E! News. "Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss the matter further at this time."

Campbell scratched the eye of a paparazzo photographer Gaetano Di Giovanni leading him to seek medical treatment. He was also not able to report to work and was advised to rest for three days.

According to Telegraph, Di Giovanni was taking photos of the British model with her then Russian billionaire boyfriend Vladimir Doronin as they stepped out in their yacht in the Sicilian Island. The case was heard in 2013 and the photographer stated that he was surprised of the model's vicious reaction.

The paparazzo reached an agreement with Campbell's lawyer leading to closure of the case. However, prosecutor Francesco Massara ordered to hear the 2009 incident once again due to the severity of the case.

It wasn't the first time that Campbell had a run-in with the law, eight years earlier, he served a five-day community service sentence in New York after she threw a cellphone to her maid. Apart from that, she completed anger management course and shouldered her housekeeper's medical bills amounting to $363.

In the past she bailed out for mistreating a police officer in Heathrow airport in London. In 2000, she tossed a Blackberry phone to her assistant. Back in 1999, she entered a rehab for cocaine addiction, according to Entertainment Online.

Once, she told Oprah Winfrey in a tell-all interview, she takes responsibility for the things she has done. The model adds she is ashamed for her mistakes. No comment was heard from Campbell's side regarding the reopened case.
