'Captain Marvel' may have found its Carol Danvers in actress Emily Blunt in a secret casting. Speculations reemerged and put Blunt as the headliner over other actresses for the title role.
According to Comicbook Movie, the English actress had already signed on in the titular role via Meet The Movie Press' podcast hosted by Umberto Gonzalez and Mark E. Reilly. Reilly mentioned that he heard about a rumor that Blunt's casting was already a completed. However, guest host El Mayimbe of Heroic Hollywood hinted at the slim possibility as the film doesn't have a director yet.
Blunt herself debunked the claims in previous interviews stating that she hadn't been officially offered the role and that it was most likely just fan-casting, according to Metro.Co.UK. It doesn't come as a surprise especially since she admittedly turned down two other offers to play Marvel superheroines Black Widow and Agent Carter during an interview with Vulture on 2014. Without scheduling conflicts, she could have said yes - proving that Marvel already thinks Blunt is a hot ticket.
Her famous roles in action-packed movies such as 'Edge of Tomorrow' and 'Sicario' have proved her versatile enough to play tough central characters in contrast to her previous upbeat films like 'Into the Woods' and 'Devil Wears Prada'.
In an article by Movie Web, several actresses have already been rumored for the role including Charlize Theron, Jessica Chastain and Katheryn Winnick - all of whom are still very much unconfirmed. There was also a previous rumor that Angelina Jolie was offered $20 million to helm 'Captain Marvel' as director of the first ever female-led superhero movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
'Captain Marvel' is a live-action adaptation of a comic book superheroine of the same name to be released on November 2, 2018. It will be the eighth installment in MCU's Phase Three.
