The trailer for upcoming action thriller '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi' has recently been released and received mixed reviews from various sources. Months before its actual release on big screens worldwide, it seemed to already prove controversial among critics.
According to Screen Rant, the trailer immediately reflected director Michael Bay's recognizable filmmaking style, specifically on presenting a montage of explosions and testosterone-engulfed dramatic action shots. The film seemed to be a rather ambitious take on the highly politicized Benghazi incident of 2012. Naturally, it wouldn't come as a surprise that even a two-minute teaser would be met with an assortment of contrasting appraisals.
In an article by the Chicago Tribune, several critics have already cast their initial impressions on Bay's upcoming adaptation. They were mostly concerned about the big screen portrayal of the exceedingly sensitive political issue that killed four Americans including U.S. Ambassador J. Christopher Stephens - the first American ambassador killed in the line of duty since 1979. The article also noted that the film's scheduled release timed within the election cycle may be grounds for consideration.
According to MSNBC, Bay may not air out his political views and philosophies in public but it seemed that his movies are interpreted as generally right-wing. The article noted that if the trailer were to be a suggestion of the overall tone and message of '13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi', it may not play well with the administrative agenda of certain politicians involved in the Benghazi attack.
Bay is known for his work on big-budget mainstream hits such as 'Armageddon', 'Pearl Harbor', 'The Island' and the 'Transformers' films. He began his career directing commercials and music videos.
'13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi' is a war epic based on the 2014 novel '13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi' by Mitchell Zuckoff. It tells the story of six American fighters sworn to defend the American diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya against radical Islamic terrorists. It is set for release on January 15, 2016 and stars John Krasinski, James Badge Dale, Max Martini, Toby Stephens and Pablo Schreiber among others.
