Android Lollipop Grows 18.1 Percent On Platform Distribution

Android Lollipop is now at 18.1 percent in the Android platform distribution numbers, according to an Android research tally.

Android Lollipop, Google's latest build for the Android platform, set an impressive 6 percentage points increase compared to the June update, reports said. Android Police pointed out that the Lollipop's adoption does appear to be accelerating that it jumped from June's 12.4 to 18.1 percent for August.

With this growth, however, Android Police commented that it still hasn't breached 20 percent on the chart for nearly 10 months after it was made available.

Moreover, Android Police pointed out that no data was published during the month of July, that means the results show two months of change. And to come up with these results, this Android distribution data is collected by tracking which versions of Android visit the Google Play Store most often during a 7-day testing period at the end of every month.

Ubergizmo recalled that the last time they checked, Android 5.x Lollipop was sitting at a combined distribution of 12.4 percent. This was back in June and for those who are wondering what the state of Android Lollipop is in August, it looks like the numbers have jumped rather significantly. According to the Android Developer Dashboard, Lollipop is now sitting at a combined distribution of 18.1 percent, Uber Gizmo confirmed. To be more specific, Android 5.0 Lollipop leads the majority of this Android platform build at 15.5 percent, while the recently-released Android 5.1 is at 2.6 percent. However, analysts expect those numbers to change more significantly in the next coming months as more OEMs and carriers push out the Android 5.1 update to their devices out there.

Moreover, Demanjo highlighted that KitKat this time has increased ever so slightly from 39.2 percent to 39.3 percent, while Jelly Bean significantly fell from 37.4 percent to 33.7 percent.

Lastly, for the older builds, Ice Cream Sandwich continued its decline, going from 5.1 percent to 4.1 percent, while Gingerbread also fell by one percent from 5.6 percent to 4.6 percent, Demanjo added.
