Independence Day: Resurgence is currently in the works and filming for Area 51 scenes were recently done in New Mexico. Sela Ward reveals how it feels like to play the role of a female president, while rumors are now swirling about a budding romance between Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe.
Production for the Independence sequel is underway, and a report from Auditions Free suggest that they are now filming the scenes in Area 51. In the casting call, tech, troops, security, and scientists were sought, and all applicants to be extras in the movie were required to have a clean cut and no facial hair. Filming was set in Albuquerque, New Mexico last week.
Meanwhile, as filming continue for the movie, actress Sela Ward, who is set to play the role of US' first female president, shared details about her role. Talking to People, Ward said that her character is one strong woman. "It was awesome getting to play the first female President of the United States. She's strong, decisive and not afraid to kick ass!" she said.
Also according to her, fans must expect action in the sequel, but with a kick of humor just like the original movie. "The film has great humor, like the first one, with lots of action and mind-blowing special effects," Ward revealed.
New reports about the movie also suggest that romance might be brewing between co-stars Liam Hemsworth and Maika Monroe. Hemsworth is set to play the role of Jake Morrison, while Monroe is set to play the role of Patricia Whitmore in the sequel.
According to Franchise Herald, the two were reportedly spotted getting a little too comfortable with each other during the party thrown by Roland Emmerich. A source reportedly revealed that the two were making out during the party. "His hand was on her butt as she was grinding into him and they were making out at the bar," the insider said.
"Liam was draped all over her. It was so PDA and in-your-face," the source reportedly added. However, the two has not confirmed about their relationship status yet.
Independence Day: Resurgence is directed by Roland Emmerich from the screenplay penned by Carter Blanchard. It is set to hit theaters in June 24, 2016.
