'Fifty Shades Darker' will be hitting theaters on February 10, 2017 and rumor has it that the film is expected to have an R-21 rating for alleged longer, darker and more explicit scenes. The new characters that could make an appearance are also revealed.

According to Moviepilot, 'Fifty Shades Darker' will feature new characters based on E.L. James' second erotic literature in the trilogy. The first character audiences will likely see is Elena Lincoln. She is the woman who introduced Jamie Dornan's Christian Grey to the world of BDSM.

Actress Charlize Theron has been tagged fan-favorite for the role. Leila Williams, Christian's former submissive, might also be in the new movie as well as Jack Hyde, Anastasia Steele's obsessive boss who was speculated to be portrayed by 'Superman' Henry Cavill until he denied the casting altogether.

The sequel is said to be more a thriller and less a romantic story - with a heavier plotline peppered with more explicit scenes between the characters. According to Australia Network News, it may be possible that the movie be branded an R-21 rating. In the article, it is said that director Sam Taylor Johnson himself wanted this to happen perhaps so that he wouldn't have to cut out more scenes like what happened in the first film.

In the United States, 'Fifty Shades of Grey' was thought to receive an NC-17 rating. Surprisingly, it was given a less restrictive R-rating. Several other areas of the world graciously cut out more of the film's scenes to allow screening in local theaters.

The second installment in the trilogy could work Christian and Ana's chemistry up a notch - with haunting pasts, love triangles and intensified fetishes. According to Latinos Health, there have been several plot recommendations from various media outlets on how the follow-up could be less sluggish than the first.

One stated that Christian's perspective must be added so as to make his character more complex and less one-dimensional. Another suggested that longer intimate scenes with more believable dialogue would keep viewers interested.

'Fifty Shades Darker' the second film in the film franchise based on the novels by E.L. James. The first film was a commercial success earning $569 million against a $40 million budget in the box office according to Box Office Mojo. However, it was met with mixed - mostly negative - reviews on basis of acting, script and pacing.
