'Kong: Skull Island' will feature Brie Larson to star alongside Tom Hiddleston. Russell Crowe is speculated to join the latest King Kong film wherein he will be replacing Michael Keaton or J.K. Simmons.
According to Deadline.com, Larson is in talks with Legendary Pictures film executives to star opposite lead actor Hiddleston for the new adaptation of the classic 'King Kong' franchise. In addition, the production company is seeking to fill the roles of actors Michael Keaton and J.K. Simmons who both opted out of the film due to scheduling conflicts. Larson's past work include '21 Jump Street', 'Scott Pilgrim vs. the World', 'Don Jon', 'The Spectacular Now' and the recent 'Trainwreck'.
Hiddleston won't be the only Hollywood hunk on set. In an article by Cinema Blend, Russell Crowe is tagged for a role in the Legendary/Universal Pictures joint project. However, Crowe has not yet read the script drafted by writers John Gatins and Max Borenstein nor has he confirmed of this casting. It was noted that Crowe may replace either Keaton's or Simmons' character.
'Kong: Skull Island' will feature the iconic jungles in Kong's homeland, according to Comingsoon.net. It will focus on a team of explorers going deep into a mysterious island to uncover the origins of the gigantic gorilla. In an old interview, Simmons revealed the setting to be in 1970s Detroit. However, these have yet to be confirmed.
There have already been several film adaptations based on the king of the jungle namely Peter Jackson's version in 2005, John Guillermin's in 1976, and the original 1933 version by Merian Cooper and Ernest Schoedsack - all titled 'King Kong'.
'Kong: Skull Island' is an action-adventure film to be released on March 10, 2017 under the direction of Jordan Vogt-Roberts. The first version, which opened in New York City on March 2, 1933, forever rooted its characters into mainstream pop culture. It was noted for its stop-motion animation and deemed highly significant in the filmmaking industry.
