'Thor: Ragnarok' could hold valuable plot elements in preparation for events leading to 'Avengers: Infinity War'. Tom Hiddleston's villain Loki is also said to be primed to destroy the fictional realm of Asgard in the upcoming film.

In an article by Youth Health, the upcoming film based on the character lifted from the Marvel comic books could be the biggest key towards setting the story for the next superhero team-up flick in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Speculations have it that the introduction of the famous Infinity Stones and the supervillain Thanos would catapult massive plot developments for the next movies in the succeeding phase of the MCU.

According to Movie Pilot, 'Thor: Ragnarok' is looking to be the most important standalone film in Phase Three specifically on what plan Thanos could be maneuvering against the collective superheroes and the impending destruction of the universe.

To harness the ultimate power of total annihilation and domination, he would need to use the Infinity Gauntlet adorned with Infinity Stones. One of the great stones, a powerful Asgardian artifact called the Tesseract, was shown to be locked up in Odin's vault. Rumor has it that this would most likely be the first stone Thanos would add to his collection.

Thanos may not be the only villain the heroes will be up against. In a report by Screen Crush, the Asgardian Prince Loki may very well be the key to the destruction of Asgard. The adopted brother of Thor, god of mischief and usurper to the throne, would have a hand in the apocalypse known as the Ragnarok.

In the comic books, Loki creates an army to lead a war against Thor and other Asgardian warriors and gets his hand on a potent weapon to destroy Asgard as well as break Thor's hammer. This theory for a movie plot remains to be confirmed as of the present.

'Thor: Ragnarok' is an upcoming live-action adaptation of the Marvel comic book hero of the same name. It is set for release on November 3, 2017 as the fifth installment in Phase Three of the MCU. It will feature the returning cast of Hiddleston as Loki, Chris Hemsworth as Thor and Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif.
