Paramount Pictures released a teaser trailer for Ben Stiller's "Zoolander 2" over the weekend. The sequel to the 2001 cult hit offered a strange piece taking a look into Derek Zoolander's brain.
"Zoolander 2" teaser features an imagery that looks like it came from an educational video for a high school science class.Featuring such jokes as a throwback to Zoolander's mispronunciation of eulogy ("eugoogly"), the trailer flies through Zoolander's inner workings. It begins with a voice-over from a speech synthesizer - clearly meant to evoke Stephen Hawking. It explains the Big Bang Theory, and the wondrous universe it birthed after billions of years; including, the magnificent human brain.
"In the beginning, there was nothing, an infinite void," says a very familiar-sounding voice. The male model interrupts the serious dialogue with his own question. "If God exists, why did he make ugly people?"
The 2001 Zoolander, co-wrote and directed by comic star Ben Stiller, is a spoof of the fashion industry. It began as a short skit for the 1996 VH1 Fashion Awards. Stiller is Derek Zoolander, an intellectually challenged but bone structure-blessed male model who's despondent after being eclipsed in popularity by an equally vacuous rival, Hansel (Owen Wilson).
Zoolander eventually earned $45 million domestic and just $60 million worldwide off a $15.5 million weekend on a $28 million budget before becoming a solid DVD title in its own right.
Ben Stiller and Zoolander co-star Owen Wilson made waves with surprise in-character cameos in Paris last March. Showing up at the Maison Valentino show for Paris Fashion Week, Wilson and Stiller had a walk-off in their custom outfits and conquered social media.
"Zoolander 2" will be reuniting Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Christine Taylor and Will Ferrel while bringing Kristen Wiig, Billy Zane, Penélope Cruz, Olivia Munn, Fred Armisen, Justin Bieber, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West to make appearances as well. Justin Theroux co-wrote the script with Stiller and is set to hit the theaters in February 12, 2016.
