The cast of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' has just become more star-studded with Colin Farrell joining the ensemble as the wizard Graves. He is set to work alongside Eddie Redmayne, Ezra Miller and Katherine Waterston.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Farrell signed in as the newest cast member of the 'Harry Potter' series spin-off as the wizard Graves, one of the interesting characters the main protagonist Newt Scamander meets in his adventures in New York. It was also reported that Tony winner Dan Fogler was also recently cast for Jacob - a 'muggle' (non-wizard) Newt befriends.
David Yates, the director for the last 'Harry Potter' films, helms the upcoming live-action book adaptation with David Heyman returning as producer together with Tim Lewis, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram, Neil Blair and author J. K. Rowling, who also wrote the script according to IMDB.com.
According to Screen Rant, the spin-off is likely a great idea to keep the Warner Bros. wizard franchise going. It is speculated that the addition of Farrell might give the Irish actor a career boost and could hold the key to the success of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them'.
Farrell is currently working with HBO's 'True Detective'. His latest film 'The Lobster' by director Yorgos Lanthimos won the Jury Prize at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.
Warner Bro.'s upcoming trilogy tells the story of a 'magizoologist' named Newt Scamander who travels the world for his research of magical creatures. He then authors a compilation that is used by Harry Potter and his fellow wizards decades later during their first year at Hogwarts. It was reported that the new film will begin in New York, around 70 years before the events in the 'Harry Potter' series.
According to The Guardian, Newt will be portrayed by Oscar Winner Eddie Redmayne. The English actor is best known for his role in the Stephen Hawking biopic 'The Theory of Everything' where he won an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Redmayne signed on to play the lead role last June. The cast also includes Katherine Waterston as the American witch Porpentina, Newt's love interest, as well as Ezra Miller whose role is still unknown.
The first film for 'Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them' is set to be released on November 18, 2016. It is inspired by a book of the same name authored by J. K. Rowling as supplementary literature to the successful 'Harry Potter' series.
