‘The Incredibles 2’ Spoilers: New theory suggests Edna Mode a more important character than previously expected; Film to focus more on Jack-Jack?

By

While fans wait for writer-director Brad Bird to finish up the challenging task of creating a script for 'The Incredibles 2', they're currently up to their necks in theories exploring backstories, possible villains and potential sequel plot line. No official announcement had been made just yet regarding the focus for the next feature film that sees the return of the family of superheroes on the big screen.

One such theory involves the importance of the character Edna Mode, who was voice by Bird himself for the previous movie. According to Movie Pilot, an interesting fan theory came up of the designer's possible involvement in the defeat of the villain Syndrome. This made rounds in various forums like 4Chan, Tumbler and Reddit.

In the theory, Edna was the real hero behind the Incredibles. Following a tragic incident involving her design, a jet turbine and the untimely demise of a young superhero that caused a great divide between Supers and the general public, she vowed never to use flying capes on her clients again - not until Syndrome came along seeking a villain's wardrobe.

Edna knew of his evil plans and purposely designed him a cape. She also supercharged the Incredibles family with powerful suits engineered to protect them from Syndrome's malicious attacks. If one can recall from the first film, Syndrome's cape caught into a jet turbine that sucked him in causing his end.

It seemed a well devised theory prompting fans to rethink Edna's real heroic intentions. However, some noted that Syndrome created his own things making it his fault for using a cape - totally devaluing the Edna Mode theory altogether. Nevertheless, it made for a clearly entertaining diversion from the long wait for any updates from Bird's follow-up film.

According to Movie News Guide, Bird revealed that the new Disney/Pixar collaboration will be more character driven and centered on the relatability of the superhero family without going overboard with special effects. It will reflect the state of the Incredibles as they try to fight crime while raising children with super powers. Rumors have it that the film will be set a couple of years ahead the events of the previous one.

It may be possible that Pixar is looking at a 2017 or 2018 release date, according to an article by Christian Today. It also added that the youngest member of the family, Jack-Jack, will be the main focus of the new film. Previous rumors implied that Syndrome would use Jack-jack's powers for his own evil plans and turn him against his family.

'Incredibles 2' is animated superhero movie slated to hit theaters in the future as a follow-up to its 2014 predecessor. The first film was a huge box office success, raking in $631 million against a $92 million budget according to Box Office Mojo.
