"Castle" Season 7 finale showed Penny Johnson Jerald's Captain Victoria Gates exit the show and according to previous reports, this was made in order to promote Kate Beckett. The new showrunners of the show revealed that despite rumors that Beckett was supposed to run for a senate seat, Season 8 will see more of her in the precinct.
"Castle" Season 8 will be having a lot of changes as well as new characters to be introduced. Alexi Hawley, one of the creators of the show, said that the exit of Captain Victoria Gates was for things to be shaken up and for Beckett to remain in the precinct, Inquisitr reported. This means that earlier speculations that Beckett will be promoted are true but it will reportedly cause some new problems for Beckett and Castle.
In a report by Yibada, Hawley also shared that Becket and Castle used to investigate cases side by side but with the new promotion for the former and her being in charge, there will be many changes. He added that the show is basically about the love affair of the two but the showrunners want to add some drama to it. Hawley continued, "We're going to have fun. It's going to be emotional at times, it will be romantic... It will be everything."
Executive Producer Terence Winter also talked about the changes in the character of Beckett and how will it impact her relationship with Castle. In a report by Christian Today, Winter talked about the character of Beckett in "Castle" Season 8 as he shared, "She's boots on the ground ... She's going to be handling cases and she's going to be involved in the interrogation. It's much different when your wife is the captain, the boss, versus when your wife is the detective."
With this revelations, this might just prove truth to the speculations that one of the new characters will get in the way of Beckett and Castle and that's Hayley Shipton. However, Hawley did say that Shipton is this strong, beautiful, and independent woman that it could cause tension between her and Beckett.
"Castle" will be returning to ABC this September 21.
