Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi has officially released its first 'Made in India' handset Redmi 2 Prime. The handset can be purchased at Rs 6,999 across Mi.com/in, Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal in an open sale.
Xiaomi has also been reportedly announced its first manufacturing unit in India in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Foxconn was the reported partner of the Xiaomi Company, which has set up manufacturing facility in Sri City in Andhra Pradesh.
The country will reportedly manufacture all the Redmi 2 Prime handsets that will be sold in India, BGR wrote. As for its camera, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 prime will reportedly sport an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.
According to Christian Post, the Xiaomi Redmi 2 Prime is a beefier and more powerful version of the Redmi 2 in the Asian country. The smartphone will allegedly feature a 4.7-inch display with HD (1280 x 720) resolution. The device is said to be powered by, 64-bit 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 CPU and Android 4.4.4 KitKat with MIUI 6.
The device is also packed it a 2,200mAh battery which according to the company are good enough for 14 hours of talk time, BGR reported. In addition, it also features a Quick Charge technology and Dual 4G SIM card slots.
The BGR also states that the Redmi 2 Prime is basically the Redmi 2 Limited Edition that was first launched in China. Furthermore, when the Redmi 2 got enhanced, more of its units have been recently launched in Singapore.
This is essentially an increased variant of the Redmi 2. Since the Redmi 2 is only offering 1GB of RAM, and 8GB internal storage, whereas the Redmi 2 Prime is boasting 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage.
Xiaomi has been reportedly partnered with Redington in selling Redmi Prime 2 in retail stores. After escalating its online reach from just Flipkart, the company is now reported focusing on offline sales, Indian express noted. While the latest Redmi 2 Prime is primarily available online and the device will also be made available in retail stores soon.
