Bill Murray has been confirmed to appear in Paul Feig's all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot of the supernatural comedy film. The actor is predicted to play the role of the film's antagonist, Martin Heiss. "Ghostbusters 3" is slated to open in cinemas July next year.
It looks like Dan Aykroyd is not the only original cast member to appear in the upcoming reboot as Bill Murray has gotten the "Ghostbusters" call as well. Entertainment Weekly confirms that the 64-year-old actor will make an appearance in director Paul Feig's upcoming film.
Murray is noted to have played the character of Dr. Peter Venkman in the 1984 movie and the 1989 sequel. According to the outlet, he has been resistant to the idea of doing a third film, saying "It's really hard to recreate something that was so beautiful, so wonderful." But with the recent reports surfacing online, it looks like the actor has already changed his mind.
As per Irish Examiner, Murray was spotted in the Boston set of the upcoming movie where the stars are filming scenes with the 52-year-old director. The details are still sketchy though, whether he will reprise his role of the cocky yet lovable paranormal expert or not.
But if Feig has a new role for him, the site predicts that the funnyman may portray the character of Martin Heiss. Martin Heiss is a professional supernatural debunker who is against the new team. He reportedly aims to prove that the new ghost capturers are "fakes".
As previously reported, Feig's female-led "Ghostbusters" reboot follows two unheralded authors who will pen a book theorizing that ghosts are real. A few years later, the book reappears and the pair forms a group that aims to save the city from the dangerous supernatural entities. It will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon as the titular team.
"Ghostbusters 3" has already commenced its production in Boston last month for a scheduled premiere of July 22, 2016.
