Screenwriter Max Borenstein Revealed: "Godzilla 2" Will Be Bigger And Better

By

Screenwriter Max Borenstein has shared new details about the sequel to monstrous hit 'Godzilla,' confirming that he is returning to write the script and promising that round two will be bigger and better than the first outing.

The "Godzilla" screenwriter Borenstein and director Gareth Edwards will be reuniting in the future on "Godzilla 2." It is the sequel that has already been scheduled for a 2018 theatrical bow. With nearly three years of waiting for the movie's release, everyone involved is being understandably tight-lipped about the details. At the 2015 Television Critics Association press tour, Collider had a chance to ask Borenstein about the status of the Godzilla sequel.

The screenwriter has been promoting the upcoming "Minority Report" TV series which he wrote the pilot episode for. Borenstein said he is currently working on the Godzilla 2 screenplay: "... I'm doing it. I'm writing it now, and it's really going to be great. I don't want to go off book and tell you anything that I'm not allowed to tell you. The response to the first film was really exciting, but now that that world is established, we can do bigger and even better things. We're really stoked."

Borenstein also went on to confirm that he will be collaborating with Edwards while writing the script. Albeit allowing for the time constraints imposed by the director's work on "Star Wars: Rogue One." Edwards' return behind the camera was also recently confirmed by the studio. Borenstein also co-wrote Legendary's upcoming "Kong: Skull Island." It is a sort of an origins story for the eponymous King Kong and his home island populated by a variety of giant creatures.

On the other hand, Japanese reboot to "Godzilla" is said to feature hybrid special effects. The movie will be co-directed by Hideaki Anno and Shinji Higuchi, the duo behind "Neon Genesis Evangelion" and the upcoming live-action "Attack on Titan". The movie would adapt Higuchi special techniques that he used in "Attack on Titans." The work combines computer graphics with manipulating a towering doll of rippling red muscle that resembles a giant biological anatomy chart.

The film is currently pencilled in for a June 8, 2018 release, and it has previously been suggested that classic monsters Rodan, Mothra and Ghidorah will appear.
