'Wayward Pines' season2 renewal is still in the limbo. Although the FOX has not announced their decision to the limited series, but the TV series producer/director M. Night Shyamalan already did mention that the season 1 finale was not meant for the second season.
Many knew that 'Wayward Pines' season 1 premiere with not so much attraction. However, it progressed and 'Wayward' Season 1 ended terrific. In the previous season, Ethan Burke, David Pilcher and Ms. Fisher all died. Ethan's son, Ben Burke suffered a head injury and awoke three years later to learn that the "First Generation" of Academy students placed the adults in suspension and now control Wayward Pines, according to Fashion & Style.
Although the 'Wayward Pines' season finale has garnered 3.9 million viewers and considered the highest rated scripted television program this summer for adults between the ages of 18 and 49, many critics believed that the ratings were not enough for the show to continue.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, 'Wayward Pines' Executive Producer Chad Hodge said that season 1 finale did not offer a teaser for the second season. He said, "It was not meant to tease a season 2. It was the end. Period. Really what it does is it comes full circle."
However, there have also been reports that Executive Producer M. Night Shyamalan is in talks with 'Wayward Pines' author Blake Crouch for the possibility of the second season. Still the decision is not yet final. And even Shyamalan himself affirmed that they're happy to walk away from the project. But if the time comes that they will do a second season of 'Wayward Pines', they "would approach it with a very high level of integrity and not let the opportunity dictate it."
