Google released 5.1.1 version of Android Lollipop but LG appears uninterested to update some of its G series units. It looks like the smartphone company will wait for the new platform, Android M, to update its other phone models.
Christian Today said that LG's G2, G3, and G4 are still on Android 5.1.0 Lollipop version and users have never received any OTA yet for the update to Android 5.1.1. The report added that LG is planning to wait for Android M, the new Android platform, to update some of its G series.
One model is for sure won't receive the 5.1.1 version of Android Lollipop. Phone Arena reported what LG Hellas posted on social media that it has no immediate plans to roll out Android 5.1.1 version, specifically in the G3 model. The report added that the phone is capable of running new Android OS even though it won't receive Android 5.1.1 version.
The related news also cited the same manner that LG skipped other versions before, and went directly to the new update. As an example, the smartphone company skipped the 4.4.3 and 4.4.4 Kitkat versions and went straight from 4.4.2 to Android 5.0 version in some of its handsets.
On the other hand, other Android devices have already received the 5.1.1 version of Android Lollipop since April. These include the Nexus series, Galaxy series and HTC series. The new OS version is believed to correct known issues from previous 5.1.0 version.
As of the moment, Google has not announced a definite time on when it will roll out Android M. It is known that the OS developers are still on the process of doing some tests on the new Android software before its usability. There is also no additional information from LG on its future plans to mobile devices. So the users of G2, G3, and G4 will have to wait for any update from the smartphone firm.
