Smartphone manufacturers are struggling to fight against Stagefright virus. One of the manufacturers is Samsung, which faces a challenge with its security update. The smartphone company promised of speeding up its security update process to be able to cater all of its customers.
Lately, Samsung expressed its concerns regarding the susceptibility of its users to Stagefright virus as posted in Gizmodo. "We have been rethinking the approach to getting security updates to our devices in a timelier manner," Dong Jin Koh said. The Executive Vice President and Head of Mobile Research and Development Office, IT & Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics added that developing a fast response process of security updates is essential to patch loopholes for Android users' protection. The primary aim of Samsung's crucial plan is to keep providing a great value to its customers.
On the other hand, there are a lot of things to consider why security updates take time to be sent on Android mobile phones. BGR mentioned that the reason is due to various Android hardware vendors with various different carriers which install their own software on the devices. Report added that both carriers and OEMs need to test first new issued software by Google before rolling out updates to their customers. This reason alone delays the process of updates which gives a challenge to Google, carriers, and the manufacturers to counteract the virus the soonest possible.
Related report said that Google has teamed up with the original Stagefright discoverer, Zimperium, to strengthen the advocacy in stopping the spread of Stagefright virus. Lucian Armasu of Tom's Hardware verbalized that Apple, Microsoft, and Linux have better security update process than Android.
In the meantime, there are approximately 950 million Android users who are affected by the virus, Tom's Hardware noted. Yet, the report added that there are only 2 OEMs who agreed with monthly security updates system, aside from Google.
As of the moment, Samsung and the two OEMs did not comment on its specific plan or process on how to immediately respond on the Stagefright bug virus.
