'Prometheus 2' may be delaying director Neill Blomkamp's production on 'Alien 5'. Several plot leaks were recently revealed and pointed out to a possibility of an army of multiple Davids and his journey with Shaw to the Engineer's planet.
According to a report by Bloody Disgusting, development on the newest film in the 'Alien' franchise starring Sigourney Weaver could be held up until director Ridley Scott enters production for the 'Prometheus' sequel. It was reported that this could mean Blomkamp's follow-up would have to endure a rather extensive development schedule for a much later 2018 release date compared to 'Prometheus 2' that would debut in big screens around the world next year.
A source said, "Alien 5 is still very much in the works, as Fox remains hot on the idea... Blomkamp continues to work on the script and refine the tale he is telling. Ridley Scott is still producing, but has insisted on Prometheus 2 being made first." There is no official announcement from both parties regarding the accurateness of these schedules. It was previously reported however that Blomkamp's version will ignore the earlier 'Alien 3' and 'Alien: Resurrection' story lines and will pick up where 'Alien' left off.
In another article by Sci-fied, Scott will be returning to the director's chair on January next year to begin filming the 'Prometheus' sequel after the release of his newest science-fiction adventure film 'The Martian' starring Matt Damon. The Oscar-nominated director directed the first film in the series as well as 1979's iconic 'Alien' film.
He will return as producer for Blomkamp's follow-up. It was reported that 'Alien 5' will not affect the 'Prometheus 2' development and that the two filmmakers are actively collaborating on both films to prevent inconsistencies in the scripts.
According to Movie Pilot, the latest plot leaks for the sequel recently began making rounds online. One rumor suggested that Michael Fassbender's David and Noomi Rapace's Shaw will travel towards the Engineer's planet. The expedition won't be the only story focused in the new film though. As the cast expands, several other stories will also take place.
Another theory pointed out that there will be more android Davids enough for a military style formation. The article also strongly suggested of a possible connection between the 'Prometheus' and 'Alien' timeline and universe.
'Prometheus 2' is the follow-up to the 2012 science fiction film of the same name. The previous film gained $403 million in the box office against a $120-130 million budget according to Box Office Mojo. It garnered several prestigious accolades and nominations including an Academy Award nomination for Best Visual Effects.
