Indie Game Developer Recreates ‘Final Fantasy 7’ into a 2D Action Game, Playable Demo Available for Download

While "Final Fantasy 7" is being remade for PlayStation 4 and is still under development, Singapore-based indie game developer PD Design Studio, recently recreated "Final Fantasy 7" into a 2D action game and named it "Final Fantasy 7: Reimagined." They have also already released a playable demo.

"Final Fantasy 7: Reimagined" developers have stated that while imagining "Final Fantasy 7" as an action game, the idea of Classic 2D Side-Scrollers just like Streets of Rage, and Dungeons and Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara, came into their minds.

"We thought about how we can incorporate some of the Final Fantasy 7 game play elements, such as Materia and summoning of Guardian Force into a Hack and Slash genre," reported by Gamespot.

As a group of fans of the Final Fantasy franchise, the development team of PD Design Studio have decided to release their "Final Fantasy 7: Reimagined" demo, with the same features that are expected in the actual "Final Fantasy 7" game. Gamers may either play as Cloud or Tifa, or opt to play in cooperation with a friend. Players may also call in Barret for a special attack, such as the fire support. The "Final Fantasy 7" 2D game can be downloaded in the Final Fantasy VII: Reimagined website.

At the E3 2015, Square Enix have announced that they will be releasing an HD remake of "Final Fantasy 7." IGN notes that there isn't any other details revealed yet about the latest installment of the franchise, but more updates about the game are expected to be announced this coming winter.

As "Final Fantasy 7: Reimagined" is not made in cooperation with Square Enix, chances are that PD Design Studio will encounter problems about it eventually. The latter, on the other hand, states that the project was "done purely for fun." The game, according to them, is intended to be "a non-profit fan-made project."
