Sony Xperia devices are confirmed to get much-anticipated Android 6.0 marshmallow software update including Z4 Tablet, Z3, Z3 Compact, Z3 Tablet Compact, Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z, Z Ultra, ZL, and Tablet Z.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is slated to officially release through over-the-air by the end of September. Although Marshmallow is coming only to select devices for now as mentioned, Sony might be releasing a new batch of Xperia devices to join the names for a sweet Marshmallow treat.
Since Marshmallow will only be available to a certain Xperia devices because of API levels, Sony Mobile still has to work this are out to match Nexus devices which is the only qualified smartphones and tablets for now.
The Japanese tech firm still has API level of Android 5.1 Lollipop. However, Xperia Z4 Tablet and Xperia Z3 Plus are expected to get the update ahead of the rest in its kind. While other models Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z1 still has to update to Android 5.1.1 and Xperia Z to 5.1 Lollipop before coming to the Marshmallow update.
Android product manager Jamal Eason first earlier this week said that Marshmallow is surely coming to a lot of Android devices so there is nothing to worry for fans although the update will take time for others. Possibility has it that Marshmallow might be coming to some phones by the end of the year or early 2016.
Android 6.0 Marshmallow is still available via SDK to Google's own Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player devices. It is also expected to come out to HTC One M9, One M8, One M7, Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, and Motorola Moto G 2015, among others.
Marshmallow update brings in key features like Android Pay, a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C support, app linking, enhanced app permissions, battery management, and custom Chrome tabs, among others.
Android Pay, like Apple Pay and Samsung Pay, is a cardless mobile payment service that operates via near-field communication (NFC). Android Pay is pre-installed on devices supported by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless.
Fingerprint scanner supports security improvement with Android Pay as it replaces Google Wallet.
