Players of Mirror's Edge Catalyst will see Faith Connors' parkour moves at its rawest yet. The heroine won't be using guns anymore in this game, as she had vowed long ago to never use them again in her battles. Combining her fluid movements, using her body as a projectile, and redesigning the Runner Vision - these will be the "catalysts" for Faith's adventure in the Glass City.
Here in Mirror's Edge Catalyst, Faith's fluidity is translated into "incredible acrobatic feats with lithe, (and) seemingly effortless athleticism," according to Xbox Achievements. The protagonist is at her toughest and most skillful stance here yet.
With no more use for guns, her body being used as a projectile instead, Faith can "cut(s) through enemies like a sweeping scythe, dropping them left and right, while never staying still long enough for them to be able to hit her," as described in the Mirror's Edge Catalyst website. Adds DICE, she can "wall-run, boost off the surface and kick enemies in one seamless motion."
Since this Mirror's Edge installment is an open-world game, the entire design had to be changed, according to Segment Next. The report added Erik Odeldahl's, game design director, explanation with regard to redesigning the Runner Vision.
"We had to redesign Runner Vision completely. We still wanted to keep that 'follow the red objects to get to your objective' [guidance], but since we can't really know now which objective the player wants to go to, we let them place a waypoint on our 3D map. Runner Vision now works kind of like a GPS, in that it continuously recalculates a path for you from where you're standing at the time to where you want to get to. And that obviously took quite some work, and we're still refining it now."
With these developments centered on Faith, she is definitely set out to be The Catalyst for change, rising up and fighting against the powers that have engulfed the City of Glass.
Mirror's Edge Catalyst is coming out in 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
