'Bad Boys 3' actor Martin Lawrence confirms film is currently in the works. His co-star Will Smith may not appear in the third film however he may stay on as producer.
Comedian and actor Martin Lawrence confirmed the development of the upcoming sequel during an interview with talk show host Conan O'Brien, according to Slash Film. The 52- year old comedic talk show host asked Lawrence about developments regarding the third movie in the franchise to which the actor revealed that they are getting close to getting the action-comedy film up and running.
He said, "I believe so. Yes. I just talked to Jerry Bruckheimer yesterday and he said its real, they're working on the script, they're getting close and it all looks good."
Since its first public announcement not a long time ago, only a few details have been released regarding the film. David Guggenheim, who worked on the film 'Safe House', had been hired to work on the script with independent filmmaker Joe Carnahan of the 'The A-Team' and 'Smokin' Aces' fame rumored to helm the directing role.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer also stated in a previous interview, "...Ride Along came out and was a big hit, and now they're all excited to make the movie, but Will is off doing something else. It's just trying to get everybody together to make it. But, we're working on the script. We have a lot of faith and hope that we'll do it." Bruckheimer was reported last September to be active in the development of the new script.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, it is unclear whether leading man Smith will continue with his role as Lawrence's co-star in the third installation. It was reported that although Smith is definitely staying on-board to help with the film, he may not in front of the cameras as detective Mike Lowrey. He may, however, jump on as producer.
In another article by Collider, Sony Pictures Entertainment may still be pushing ahead with 'Bad Boys 3' regardless of Smith's uncertain acting involvement. It even revealed that a fourth movie is also in the works and is seriously thinking of reviving the franchise since its film's first debut a decade ago in April 7, 1995.
It seemed that both Smith and Lawrence had expressed their future involvement in the franchise if director Michael Bay continued work on the follow-ups. Smith is currently working with DC's anti-superhero film 'Suicide Squad' and is also set to star in the upcoming drama 'Concussion'.
'Bad Boys 3' is an upcoming buddy cop movie set to be released on February 17, 2017. The next film will follow on July 3, 2019. The first film in the franchise earned a staggering $141 million against a $19 million budget according to Box Office Mojo and sealed its reputation as a highly bankable cinematic endeavor despite receiving mixed reviews.
