Since the conception of the console games, developers and manufacturers are trying to outdo one another by coming up with something new to offer year after year and Nintendo is one of them. The Japanese game console pioneer just recently applied for a patent which is believed to be the next Nintendo NX technology which will step up the plate for all console games.
According to a report by NZ Gamer, Nintendo filed a patent in February but the details of the patent was intentionally withheld until it was made public last week, which made the gaming industry flustered and excited at the same time by Nintendo's petition.
The patent, based on the report, is for a 'stationary game apparatus, game apparatus, game system, recording medium, and speed control method', which 'is not provided with an optical disk drive for reading out program and/or data from an optical disk.'
In addition, the patent also mentioned a 'card slot' which is probably a slot for a removable SD card or anything similar to the device, the report added. iDigital Times also posted a similar report and added that the request also includes a controller, which is similar to the current Wii U gamepad.
The tech website also pointed out that since there is no confirmation from the company that the patent pertains to the Nintendo NX, it is safe to assume that the patent is indeed for the upcoming device because of two things.
First, from the looks of it, chances are it will be the NX and second, based from the company's announcement in a previous event that the NX will feature a new platform and game concept, in which the patent clearly speaks for itself.
While on the topic, as Forbes cited on a related article, Xbox One previously released an idea to come up with a similar concept but hardcore and old-school gamers were quick to repel the idea which prompted Microsoft to abandon the plan and stick to the current disc-based platform.
Nintendo is known to revolutionize the gaming console industry like what they did a couple decades ago with the NES and most recently Wii. That being said, if the patent is indeed for the promised Nintendo NX, it won't be too much of a surprise if once again Nintendo is again challenging the limits of the console games industry.
