Blade Runner 2 is in early stages of production, with Oscar-nominated cinematographer on board. Denis Villenueve is set to direct the upcoming film while, the original film's director, Ridley Scott is set to produce the sequel.
Roger Deakins is officially on board to helm the cameras for the sequel of the 1982 dystopian cult, Blade Runner. According to Movie News Guide, the upcoming film will be Villeneuve and Deakins' third collaboration after working together in Prison (2013), and Sicario (2015).
According to Radio Yorkshire, filming for the sequel is set to begin in 2016 with Harrison Ford on board to reprise his role as the replicant hunter, Rick Deckard. Ryan Gosling is also reportedly in talks to play a currently undisclosed role.
According to Day Herald, Blade Runner 2 will take place many years after the events of the first film. Ford's Rick Deckard will be back, but rumor mill suggest that he might not appear as much compared to the first film, and Gosling's character might be the focus of the upcoming film.
Scott also previously revealed that although Deckard will play a significant part in the sequel, he is only set to appear in the third act of the film. "We talked at length about what it could be, and came up with a pretty strong three-act storyline, and it all makes sense in terms of how it relates to the first one. Harrison is very much part of this one, but really it's about finding him; he comes in in the third act" Scott said.
Meanwhile, Villenueve revealed that the upcoming film will present violence in a mature manner. The director said that violence was portrayed in the first film in a humane and mature manner, and he intends to do it the same way in the sequel.
The first film was believed to be an adaptation to Philip K. Dick's novel 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep'. More details about Blade Runner 2 are expected to be revealed in the coming months.
