Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Beta 60FPS Experience, Will It Hold Up At Launch?

By

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 fans had a field day when Treyarch extended its beta for PS4 for another 24 hours. The game's beta supposed to end on Sunday, but was moved a day after, due to fans and players' requests.

As expected in any beta testing, Black Ops 3 received mixed reviews from players and the press alike. One of the aspects of the game that the experts found amusing but was concerned about at the same is its promising 60fps experience.

Extreme Tech said that Treyarch had almost aced it. While it's fairly solid in some areas, "it does drop here and there (though)." In large-scale events in the game, the frame rate will occasionally drop to 50fps. It's a relatively rare occurrence though, and the frame rate bounces back to 60fps quickly.

This observation was seconded by EuroGamer. "In terms of performance, the Black Ops 3 beta delivers a mostly solid 60fps experience in multiplayer - albeit with visible drops in frame-rate during more bombastic segments of gameplay with lows of around 55fps manifesting on rare occasions."

With regards to the game's four-player campaign co-op, the early footage revealed a rather strenuous frame rate, ranging from 30-50fps. But Treyarch was quick to defend this. According to its studio head Mark Lamia: "This capture was made from a pre-alpha build for the intended purpose of demoing a level at E3 and was not fully optimised for performance."

With this in mind, and with the game's launch still two months away, Treyarch will definitely take down all these notes and get busy in their studios. All these reviews, good or bad, can affect the game's play at the market once it's dispatched in shelves nationwide.

And these analyses are not something to shove off either, if Treyarch wants to live up to the core of the Call of Duty franchise, and slightly justify its $10billion worth of sales in 2014.

The game's beta for PC and Xbox One players will begin today until August 30. Its official launch will be on November 6 for Playstation 4, Playstation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
