Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus released the latest version of Android Lollipop for its users. It is called Cyanogen OS 12.1, which is based on Android 5.1.1. The update is to fix the loopholes of Stagefright bug virus to OnePlus One devices. Cyanogen OS 12.1 is being sent through an OTA.
Casper TFG, a forum member of OnePlus, posted on their page that there are already 2% of users who received the OTA as of 3:00 am US EDT, on August 26 (12:30 pm IST).
IB Times said that in the event users have not received any OTA update yet, they can check it on the phone by first going to Settings, About phone, then System update, and lastly Check Now.
If users would also like to manually download the complete Cyanogen OS 12.1 online, Tech Times suggested a download link for it.
In the process of update, Android Police mentioned that Cyanogen OS 12.1 update will comprise of 645MB with a running build of YOG4PAS1N0 on the phone. The report also said that the handset needs enough battery since the update will finish for up to 20 minutes.
On the other hand, the importance of Cyanogen OS 12.1 update is to be able to patch the loopholes that the Stagefright bug virus has brought to OnePlus One, Tech Times reported. It means that the new software version primarily serves as a security update against the bug. Stagefright virus places Android devices vulnerable to hackers through a delivered MMS. Users may not know that their phones are being hacked even though the MMS is not opened.
Tech Times also noted some changes that Cyanogen OS 12.1 can bring to OnePlus One, aside from security update. These include an activated home button in Chrome and a default search engine homepage of Bing.
OnePlus' initiative in rolling out Cyanogen OS 12.1 update for its users only shows the great spread of Stagefright bug virus and the impact it caused to smartphone users.
