'Prometheus 2' director Ridley Scott officially announced that he is starting work with the science-fiction sequel after his latest film 'The Martian' debuts on September. He also admitted that he began scouting out possible locations ahead of the scheduled January date.
Scott publicly revealed the plan during an interview with Empire Online for his other project starring Matt Damon. The actor began by admitting how fast Scott did work on the film saying the filmmaker finished up two weeks after principal photography concluded. Scott added, "I was already on to my next movie! I was starting to look for locations for my next movie, which is Prometheus 2."
It won't be long before the Oscar-nominated film director and producer will return for another science-fiction masterpiece. An article by Entertainment Weekly reported that filming for 'Prometheus 2' will commence on January 2016. The first film released in 2012 was supposed to be a prequel in his 'Alien' franchise however Scott decided to create a totally independent series of films unrelated to the classic series lead by actress Sigourney Weaver.
According to io9.com, stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender may reprise their role in the second installment as Elizabeth Shaw and the android David respectively. Speculations regarding a new kind of enemy remain strong as well as rumors of the appearance of multiple versions of David. It was also reported that although Scott is also producing Neill Blomkamp's 'Alien 5', he pushed for the production of his own sequel first before proceeding to do work on Blomkamp's.
Several fan theories on what to expect for the second film continue to circulate around the internet. One such theory involves the introduction of a new form of alien reminiscent of the Xenomorphs from the 'Alien' series but still entirely different. Another theory points to Shaw dying at the beginning of the film to give way to a new crew.
'Prometheus 2' is the science-fiction thriller follow-up to the 2012 film of the same name. The first film is set in the late 21st century and precedes the timeline of 'Alien'. It received generally positive reviews and earned $403 million in the box office, according to Box Office Mojo.
