‘Scooby-Doo’ Reboot Update: ‘Looney Tunes’ Veteran Director Tony Cervone to Helm Movie; Film Premieres September 2018

Warner Bros. has tapped Emmy nominee director Tony Cervone to helm the newly announced "Scooby-Doo" reboot. The mystery-solving dog and his gang are returning to big screen on September 2018.

11 years after the last "Scooby-Doo" movie arrived in cinemas, Warner Bros. is finally bringing the Scooby Gang back in the silver screen. The studio has announced on Monday that an entirely animated film is currently in the works; and to make the upcoming installment as successful as its predecessors, the studio has hired a long-time animation film director. According to the Guardian, Tony Cervone has been attached to do the directorial duties in the upcoming big screen reboot of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon.

For those who do not know the filmmaker, Cervone is a veteran director of the "Looney Tunes" world. , He is best known as the animation director of the 1996 mixed live-action and CGI movie "Space Jam", starring basketball player Michael Jordan. As per Coming Soon, he has previously helmed the 2010 flick, "Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo" and most recently, "Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock And Roll Mystery". Having boarded the "Scooby-Doo" reboot, he is now slated to work with the Oscar-nominated producers Charles Roven and Richard Suckle ("American Hustle"). The pair previously produced WB's successful live-action features "Scooby-Doo" and "Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed".

The Scooby Gang first made it to the big screen back in 2002. Cinema Blend notes that James Gunn penned the screenplay of the first "Scooby-Doo" live-action version for director Raja Gosnell. It starred the husband and wife pairing of Freddie Prinze Jr (Fred) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (Daphne), along with Matthew Lillard (Shaggy), Linda Cardellini (Velma) and Neil Fanning (Scooby).Warner Bros then launched its sequel after two years with the same cast. Unfortunately, the sequel flopped at the box office, causing the franchise to be on hiatus.

Meanwhile, details about its cast are yet to be determined. But the new 'Scooby-Doo" animated movie is scheduled for release on September 21, 2018.
