20th Century Fox and New Regency have released the first official look at Michael Fassbender as the brand new character, Callum Lynch, in the upcoming "Assassin's Creed" movie. The first synopsis reveals that the film will be loosely based on the series and not a direct adaptation of any of its stories. Its production will commence by the end of August today for a December 2016 release.
It has been a long road, but the film adaptation of the popular historical video game, "Assassin's Creed", is finally about to begin its production. To prove this, 20th Century Fox and New Regency has launched via Yahoo Movies its first promotional photo featuring Michael Fassbender in his assassin gear. The 38-year-old actor is set to play the role of Callum Lynch. If that does not ring a bell to those who have faithfully played the game, it is because he is an original character.
According to Cinema Blend, the movie adaptation will be loosely based on the series and not a direct adaptation of its characters' story arcs, so not to mess with the video game. In the film, Fassbender's Lynch finds out he is a descendant of Aguilar, a dangerous 15th-Century Spanish assassin. Through the Animus, a technology that allows people to relive the "genetic history" of their ancestors, he learns the incredible knowledge and skills to fight the evil company in the present-day.
Apart from the "X-Men: Days of the Future Past" actor, "Assassin's Creed" also stars the Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard ("The Dark Knight Rises"). This reunites the two actors with the upcoming film's director Justin Kurzel whom they have worked with in 2015 British drama film "Macbeth". As per Coming Soon, New Regency, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall is producing the movie, co-funded by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures.
Production is set to begin on August31st, with photography taking place in Matla, London, and Spain. Fox's "Assassin's Creed" is expected to open in cinemas on December 21, 2016.
