Archiving Until Dawn Twitch streams for PS4 is currently disabled. Sony immediately issued a statement and was apologetic, after they received complaints from a throng of streamers of this teen horror video game. It was a glitch alright, they claimed, but it's entirely unintentional. Still, the publisher did not elaborate on how or why it happened, and players were still not convinced.
According to the statement sent by Sony regarding the matter: "We are currently working on a fix that will enable archiving of Until Dawn Twitch streams as this feature was unintentionally disabled. We are humbled by the community reception of the game and are excited to see fans sharing experiences on Twitch and YouTube. We apologize for the inconvenience and will provide an update as soon as the issue has been resolved."
On the other hand, Ars reports that Twitch had confirmed on August 26 that Sony had disabled archiving Until Dawn for PS4 users. Shared gameplays of Until Dawn on Twitch through the use of built-in Share button in PS4 will not be anymore saved for later viewing.
This is a legitimate concern from Sony, added Ars. Shutting down the archives might be a strategic move from the publisher to stop the spread of game spoilers. Destructoid somehow agreed with what Sony did as well. Archiving gameplays on Twitch is like streaming a newly released movie on Blu-ray, the report said.
Until Dawn debuted on August 25 worldwide; and had been receiving some positive responses and reviews from both players and critics then. The game had been applauded for its visuals, music, narration, and gameplay design. This early, the game had received an aggregated score of 79.94% on GameRankings based on 50 reviews; and 79/100 on Metacritic based on 68 reviews.
Sony might be thinking of ways to both manage the streamers' demands and their business for Until Dawn. It's no joke to lose some significant money over game spoilers.
