"Mad Max: Fury Road" director George Miller is reportedly attached to direct "Man of Steel 2". However, the upcoming sequel is rumored to be set on permanent hiatus due to "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". The red-caped superhero's battle with the Dark Knight is scheduled to open in cinemas March next year.
"Man of Steel 2" might not be included in Warner Bros' current slate of DC Movies, but it does not mean that there will be no more Superman films in the future. Though the release date is yet to be announced, the second installment of the franchise has reportedly attached its future director. According to Den of Geek, "Death of Superman Lives" documentary director Jon Schnepp claimed that George Miller is already assigned to do the directorial duties for the highly anticipated sequel.
His inclusion to the project was dropped by the documentary filmmaker in Popcorn Talk's latest DC Movie News Podcast. Miller is known to be the mastermind behind the post-apocalyptic franchise "Mad Max" which first debuted in 1981. With the positive critical reception of his latest movie "Mad Max: Fury Road" that was released over the summer; it makes sense that the studio is pursuing the director. This is still a long way from being confirmed though.
But if the speculation is to be believed, the fans would still have to wait for a few more years for Miller's DC superhero movie as "Man of Steel 2" was reportedly placed on "permanent hold". As per iDigital Times, Warner Bros was impressed by Ben Affleck's performance in the private screening of "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice". Because of this, the studio is allegedly interested to offer him a lucrative 10-year movie deal.
This may be the main reason why updates on Affleck's standalone "Batman" movies are more abundant than those about "Man of Steel 2". Despite this, Superman actor Henry Cavill is still attached to appear in the studio's other DC films. First on the list is "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" which is scheduled to premiere on March 25, 2016.
