Qualcomm Counters Android Malware and App Privacy Violations with New Snapdragon Chip

By

Chip-making giant Qualcomm is now producing a new processor to counter Android malware and apps privacy violations. The company sees it necessary to enter into the scene since Android has been too open to vulnerabilities.

Dubbed Snapdragon Smart Protect, the chip closely monitors the system run of each app to detect any signs of malicious threats. Available only to Android phones, Smart Protect will be incorporated to Snapdragon 820 chips set to release early in 2016.

Through Qualcomm's APIs for Smart Protect, this app will delve deeper into the phone's hardware and is capable of picking up a vast mode of app behavior. Smart Protect is also designed to compliment traditional antivirus operation.

Qualcomm is in partnership with antivirus software developers and phone manufacturers to make full-blown use of the chip. According to Forbes' report, antivirus apps makers who have so far signed up for the deal are Avast, Lookout and AVG. More partners are expected to sign up an agreement.

Added to Qualcomm's Haven security package, Smart Protect operates by sending alerts to device owners through real-time, on-device machine learning whenever malware or threat is spotted. This will also enhance privacy and mobile security product.

This way, OEMs and mobile anti-malware application providers can utilize this advanced innovation to perform valuable causal analysis for existing security products and enhance solutions against potential threats. Good to know as well that the chip will have a very impressive contribution to saving battery life of a device.

Earlier in 2015, Qualcomm has revealed the Sense ID 3D Fingerprint Technology. This innovation uses ultrasonic wavelengths to get precise 3D fingerprint scan to unlock devices.

According to reports, Samsung might be the first mobile manufacturer to use the Snapdragon 820 with Smart Protect for its future Galaxy devices since the South Korean tech giants has been rumored in talks dealing with Qualcomm. Nevertheless, Samsung has not released a word until now.

Snapdragon 820's Smart Protect is seen to ramp up Android performance in contrast to Microsoft and iOS.
