'Toy Story 4' is a sequel that follows Woody and Bo Beep's emotional love story. It was speculated that Andy's mom will finally be revealed in the upcoming film.
According to US Weekly, Pixar and Disney will bring back the beloved characters from the franchise in a much different kind of story line - it will focus on Woody and Bo Beep's relationship. The announcement was revealed by the Pixar-Disney chief creative officer John Lasseter during Disney's D23 Expo last August 14.
He said, "I love Bo Peep... And we never got to know her backstory. She wasn't in Toy Story 3 at all, so it really set us up nicely for her to come back. It's a very special story."
Bo Beep is a sweet-natured shepherdess made of porcelain that appeared in the first two films in the series. She was first introduced in 1995 and served as the love interest of the main protagonist, Woody. She didn't appear in the third film as flashback footage showed her being sold off together with other toys.
In another article by Games Radar, the wooden cowboy and his astronaut friend, Buzz Lightyear, set out to find Bo Beep and bring her safely home. Lasseter explained that although the plot will be more of an emotional one for the characters, it also has the comedic quality the CGI animated films are known for. He said that the studios' goal was to bring in something original and has never been told before.
Another interesting unexplored story arc for 'Toy Story 4' involves the identity of Andy's mysterious mother, according to The Independent. Andy Davis is a human boy who formerly owned Woody and the other toys in the film. Audiences have seen Andy grow up throughout the series with him moving out to college by the third film.
His mother's first name was never mentioned in any of the films and to date she remains one of the mysterious characters in the series. Her actions toward the toys set off the stories in each and she is portrayed as an indirect antagonist. It was speculated that she is the original owner of the Jessie The Yodeling Cowgirl as seen in previous flashbacks when Ms. Davis was a child.
'Toy Story 4' is an animated comedy-adventure film directed by John Lasseter and Josh Cooley with the screenplay written by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack. It is scheduled to be released on June 16, 2017. It will feature the return of original cast including Tom Hanks as Woody, Tim Allen as Buzz, Annie Potts as Bo Beep, Don Rickles as Mr. Potato Head, and Estelle Harris as Mrs. Potato Head.
