'Jurassic World 2' will hit UK cinemas ahead of its US counterparts during its release in June of 2018. The sequel will feature Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in their original roles Owen and Claire, respectively. It is also said to introduce new weaponized dinosaurs, specifically Raptors.
In an article by Digital Spy, the first film in the reboot earned a startling $1.6 billion worldwide after it opened in cinemas last June 12. Colin Trevorrow may not be back as director for the succeeding film but will stay on to write the screenplay together with Derek Connolly. It was reported that the film will debut in UK on June 7, 2018 - a whole two weeks earlier than the scheduled release for the United States for June 22.
It was also reported that co-actors Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will rejoin the cast for 'Jurassic World 2'. Pratt plays the main protagonist Owen Grady, Velociraptor expert and trainer, while Howard plays park's operations manager Claire Dearing.
Trevorrow admitted that he doesn't want to use the old "creature feature" feel for the upcoming film and instead wants to focus on the science and technology behind it. According to Wired, Trevorrow hinted that the plot will not stay centered on Isla Nublar and will instead extend beyond it.
He said, "I feel like the idea that this isn't always going to be limited to theme parks, and there are applications for this science that reach far beyond entertainment. And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponise it and later on we found it could be used for energy."
The idea of mechanizing and weaponizing dinosaurs was first attempted in 'Jurassic World' and it will likely follow-through in the sequel, according to Cinema Blend. In the first film, the main antagonist Vic Hoskins played by Vincent D'Onofrio wanted to turn raptors into military weapons when he saw how Owen subdued the creatures in training. Trevorrow admitted that this story arc is not in the original movie although he sees a lot of potential in it.
'Jurassic World 2' is a science-fiction and adventure film serving as the fifth installment in the 'Jurassic Park' franchise. Its predecessor became the highest grossing film of 2015 as well as the third highest grossing film of all time - the first being 'Avatar' and the second 'Titanic' both directed by James Cameron. It followed events set 22 years after 'Jurassic Park'.
