'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' will be the last film in the long-running zombie series. Actress Ali Larter, who plays Claire Redfield, confirms the end of Paul W.S. Anderson's movie adaptations and talks about heroines and female-driven action movies.
According to Screen Rant, the sixth installment in the action-horror franchise will follow through with the events in the last film where Claire, Alice, and their allies wage the final battle against the villainous Red Queen who threatens to destroy humanity. The first film in the series based on the Capcom video games of the same name made its debut in theatres worldwide in 2002. This gives it a full and rather impressive timeline of 15 years.
Larter confirmed the inevitable end of the film franchise saying that the upcoming project will be their last, according to Digital Trends. She said, "I know it is [the final movie... We are not allowed to say one thing. I am held to secrecy, but what I can tell you is that the script is amazing. They're really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. - you know, I'm excited to get back in it. I think the fans are just going to be beyond excited."
The 'Heroes' actress is set to reprise her role as Claire, the strong-willed member of the fictional NGO TerraSave aiming to save humanity by providing medical aid as well as protection from bioterrorism attacks. She is a zombie apocalypse survivor turned vigilante who fights alongside Milla Jovovich's main protagonist Alice.
In another article by Slash Film, Larter expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to take part in such a strong female role for the 'Resident Evil' films. She said that the movies themselves offered a refreshing take on female heroines that weren't competing with each other but instead are fighting together to make an empowering film. This was enough not to disappoint her that the series is in conclusion.
'Resident Evil: The Final Chapter' is set to be released on September 2, 2016 and is currently in pre-production. It is the sixth installment of the highly grossing 'Resident Evil' film series, earning an overall $915 million globally. Principal photography will begin in September in South Africa.
