‘Disney Infinity 3.0’ Features New ‘Star Wars’ Characters, Play Sets, Enhanced Toy Box

"Disney Infinity 3.0" will be joined by the forces of "Star Wars". This third installment in the toys-to-life "Disney Infinity" series offers new play sets, new characters, and enhanced Toy Box. Although two previous releases received some bland reviews; this early, Disney Infinity 3.0 is already making waves in the industry.

The toys-to-life merchandising was a fairly new innovation in the video game industry. Activision was the pioneer in this genre, with its first release in 2011 entitled "Skylanders: Spyro's Adventures". Disney jumped into the ship shortly after, as it might have seen not only a potential market, but a billion-dollar business.

And with the Star Wars brand crossing over "Disney Infinity 3.0", both will very well benefit in the process and has the likelihood to grow with its cross-generational consumers combined. It will bring in older children, as well as parents and adult "Star Wars" fans alike, according to Liam Callahan, analyst for the NPD Group.

The idea was fairly simple: Physical action figures were placed on a platform connected to a game console and, voila, the characters come to life onscreen. "Infinity 3.0" will include two characters from the "Clone Wars" animated TV series, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano; while the "Twilight of the Republic" play set offers an adventure between "Attack of the Clones" and "Revenge of Sith", reported in the Daily Reporter.

The starter pack, which costs $64.99, consists of a "Star Wars Twilight of the Republic" Play Set, Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano figures, and Toy Box 3.0. Accessories that include power disc packs are available for $9.99, character figures for $13.99, and play sets are priced at $34.99. On the other hand, the Star Wars Saga bundle will cost $114.99.

Toy Box in "Infinity" 3.0 was undoubtedly overhauled. Avalanche Software, along with other studios, provided more substance by creating the Toy Box Hub, which enables players to build their own levels and even share them online - including combat arenas, race tracks, house designs, and platforming stages, as explained in San Jose Mercury News.

The first two releases in the Infinity series didn't offer that much to be desired, according to The Verge. It was both complicated and the actual game elements weren't that much fun either. But Infinity 3.0 deferred on the formula and improved it quite a bit. And the inclusion of Star Wars characters and worlds proved to be the best change yet in the series.

With its features and initial reviews, Disney Infinity 3.0 indeed looks like a better version of its predecessors. Disney never runs out of innovations and it goes out to what it offers to its consumers. Every game released in the market has its flaws and needs development, if not, there would not be expansions, reboots, sequels, and alike. Disney Infinity 3.0 has crossed over new sections of patrons - from families, team of friends, fans of other franchise, children and old alike. Though the characters are cartoony, still, it's a video game.
