'Ghostbusters' will feature Chris Hemsworth as the receptionist Kevin in director Paul Feig's female-led reboot of the popular ghost fighting team of the 1980s. The actor first refused to play the character as it was too small a role.
According to ComingSoon.net, new photos from the filming location in Boston have been revealed including the first look at Chris Hemsworth as the male receptionist Kevin. It seems that Kevin will be donning the iconic grey jumpsuit complete with orange stripes for some real fieldwork with the new set of female-fronted supernatural fighters. This is in comparison with Annie Pott's Janine Melnitz back in the '80s wherein her secretarial role kept her firmly mounted on a desk.
The first cinematic release in the science-fiction comedy franchise came out in 1984 and starred Potts as well as Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman, Dan Arkroyd as Dr. Ray Stantz and Harold Ramis as Dr. Egon Spengler. In an article by The Guardian, Murray and Arkroyd are all set to make cameos in the upcoming reboot. Murray is rumored to play a professional supernatural expert while his former co-star will make an appearance as a taxi driver.
It was reported by Vanity Fair that the 'Thor' actor was approached by the production studio in the film's early development but he allegedly passed on playing Kevin since the part was too small. However, the script was revised to "beef up" Kevin's character and Hemsworth finally yielded. It was suggested that the actor would do more than answering phone calls and doing paper work in the office.
'Ghostbusters' is an upcoming supernatural comedy scheduled to be released on July 15, 2016. It is a re-work of the 'Ghostbusters' franchise made popular in the 1980s. Feig's vision led him to create a new team of four female paranormal fighters that include Kristen Wiig as Erin Gilbert, Melissa McCarthy as Abby Bates, Kate McKinnon as Jillian Holtzman and Leslie Jones as Patty Tolan.
