'The Space Between Us' is an upcoming science-fiction love story to be directed by Peter Chelsom. It will star Gary Oldman and Asa Butterfield. The story follows an epic romance between two teenagers from different planets.
According to Variety, Oldman will be joining the cast together with young Asa Butterfield. The 57-year old multi-award winning actor is also currently working on upcoming films 'Criminal' and 'Man Down'. His 18-year old co-actor Butterfield is best known for his powerful roles in 'The Boy In the Striped Pajamas', 'Hugo' and 'Ender's Game'. Other cast members include Carla Gugino, Britt Robertson, BD Wong and Janet Montgomery.
An article by Movie Hole reported that the film follows the story of two teenagers who fall in love - one is from planet Earth while one is from an experimental human colony in Mars. Gardner Elliot, a boy considered the first human born on Mars, develops an online relationship with a girl from Colorado and decides to travel space to be with the one he loves. Elliot will be portrayed by Butterfield while his love interest will be played by Robertson.

STX Entertainment's chairman Adam Ferguson expressed his excitement with working with the talented cast and crew. He added, "The film has a completely authentic voice and the kinds of nuanced characters who are distinctive and truly memorable. We were drawn in by this story and its universal themes of longing for community and love."
'The Space Between Us' is a new science-fiction romance film slated to begin production later this month. The announcement from motion picture and television studio STX Entertainment was made last September 8, 2015 by their president of STX Entertainment Motion Picture Group, Oren Aviv. Besides being a love story, the film will also explore the main protagonist's mother as well as his mysterious origins.
