Netflix is producing multiple episodes of the social media phenomenon science-fiction anthology series, Black Mirror. An official announcement was made by Netflix early this week.
The award winning Black Mirror created by Charlie Brooker once aired on American TV but only to limited subscribers of DirecTV though Audience Network. The recent agreement between Mr. Brooker's production company and Netflix would give greater access to it according to The Atlantic.
Black Mirror is a British anthology series which debuted in Channel 4 in 2011 and aired last in February 2013 in United Kingdom. In the said span, Brooker produced seven episodes, the six episodes were divided to two seasons while the last became a special episode.
All episodes are standalone stories of how frightening media or technology's hook can be according to io9. The title "Black Mirror" refers to the blank screen of a smartphone or tablet as representation of the depth of technology's horrifying parables.
Some intriguing questions that the parables can give answers to in relation to the possibilities of technology turning out wrong are the following: What would happen if we could record and replay all our memories? And would you want to bring back a copy of your dead loved one?
Since the episodes are standalone stories, the Observer suggests viewers to start with the special Christmas episode starring John Hamm because it shows how clever Black Mirror could be particularly on the episode's ending. It is further suggested that it would be good to watch next "Entire History of You" and "Be Right Back" while "White Bear" is said to be outwardly horrifying.
Ironical it might seem but this anthology of standalone stories about the terrifying dangers of modern technology is indeed coming to Netflix. Black Mirror is invading the the most modern television at present to enter the minds of the screen-addicted generation.
